Le château de Dunnottar est une forteresse médiévale en ruine, construite sur un éperon rocheux. Il est situé sur la côte nord-est de l'Écosse, à environ 3 kilomètres au sud de Stonehaven. Son architecture est caractéristique du XIIIe siècle, mais il fut construit sur le site d'un précédent château, érigé par une tribu.

Dunnottar Castle (Scottish Gaelic: Dùn Fhoithear, "fort on the shelving slope") is a ruined medieval fortress located upon a rocky headland on the north-eastern coast of Scotland, about 2 miles (3 kilometres) south of Stonehaven.The surviving buildings are largely of the 15th and 16th centuries, but the site is believed to have been fortified in the Early Middle Ages.

Dunnottar Castle is located just off the main A92, Stonehaven/Montrose road, less than two miles south of Stonehaven, Aberdeenshire. To help and support our committment to Green Tourism we would highy recommend use of public transport or a walk from the nearby town of Stonehaven. The car park at Dunnottar is quite small for the number of people.

For over 1000 years Dunnottar Castle played a crucial role in Scottish history and holds many rich secrets of Scotland's colourful past. The Castle has played host to some of the nation's greatest historical figures including William Wallace and Mary Queen of Scots and is famous for its role in saving the Honours of Scotland (the Scottish Crown Jewels) from Oliver Cromwell's army in the 1650s.
